The bright light in the sky led them to the land ruled by King Herod. The wise men went to his palace in Jerusalem. ‘Where is the baby who has been born king of the Jews? We saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.’ King Herod and the people of Jerusalem were disturbed at this news. These men were powerful visitors from a rival empire. Herod gathered the chief priests and teachers of the law, and asked them where the prophets had said the Messiah was to be born. – Slide 3

‘The prophet Micah said the Messiah would be born on Bethlehem,’ they replied. ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’<br/> Herod called the Magi secretly to find out the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem saying, ‘Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship Him.’ – Slide 4

God warned the Wise Men in a dream not to tell Herod where Jesus was staying so they returned home avoiding Jerusalem. God then warned Joseph that Bethlehem was no longer a safe place for them to be as Herod was planning to kill Jesus. He told them to escape to Egypt where they would be safe. Joseph and Mary set off for Egypt that very night and stayed there until God told them it was safe to return. – Slide 9
