Jesus and the Temple traders

Jesus clears the Temple of the dishonest traders.

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went to Jerusalem and entered the temple. – Slide 1

Every Israelite, rich or poor, who had reached the age of twenty was obliged to pay a half shekel as an offering to the Temple treasury. Money changers were in the temple so those with foreign money could exchange it for shekels. But the money changers were doing this at a rate which made them at big profit. – Slide 2

Others were selling cattle, sheep, and doves which were needed for offerings. – Slide 3

Jesus was deeply upset at what He saw happening. He set the doves free! – Slide 4

He turned over the tables of the traders and drove them out of the Temple! – Slide 5

‘The Scriptures say my Temple is a place of prayer,’ Jesus declared. ‘But you have turned it into a den of thieves.’ – Slide 6

The blind and the lame came to Jesus in the Temple, and He healed them. – Slide 7
