Jesus and His disciples were in the town of Capernaum on the shore of Lake Galilee. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue where Jesus was invited to preach. – Slide 1

Those listening were amazed at the things He said for He spoke with such authority. – Slide 2

Among those in the synagogue was a man who was possessed by an evil spirit. As Jesus was speaking he got up and started shouting, ‘ Go away! We want nothing to do with you, Jesus from Nazareth. You have come to destroy us. I know who you are—the Holy Son of God.’ – Slide 3

‘Be silent,’ Jesus commanded. Then He spoke to the demon and ordered, ‘Come out!’ – Slide 4

The evil spirit threw the man to the floor. Then immediately the demon left. The man was not hurt in any way. – Slide 5

Amazed, the people asked, ‘What is in the words Jesus speaks that even demons obey him?’ The story of what Jesus had done spread like wildfire throughout the whole region. – Slide 6

Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon (later called Peter). Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. – Slide 7

Jesus bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and prepared a meal for them all. – Slide 8

At sunset, at the end of the Sabbath day, crowds of people came to Jesus to bring those who were sick. – Slide 9

Jesus laid His hands on each one and healed them. Demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God!’ Jesus rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Messiah. – Slide 10

The next morning Jesus was up long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray. – Slide 11
