Slide 1

After Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead the Jewish leaders plotted to have Jesus killed. – Slide 1

Slide 2

They had spies on the lookout for Jesus. They wanted to find a time when He was away from the crowds so they could arrest Him. – Slide 2

Slide 3

Jesus was invited to a banquet in his honour at Bethany near Jerusalem. Martha served the food. Lazarus ate at the table with Jesus and His disciples. – Slide 3

Slide 4

Mary however sat at Jesus’ feet. – Slide 4

Slide 5

She took about a pint (0.5 litres) of a very, very expensive perfume of pure nard ... – Slide 5

Slide 6

... and poured it on Jesus’ feet. – Slide 6

Slide 7

The perfume was very valuable and worth about a year’s wages. – Slide 7

Slide 8

When Judas saw what Mary had done, he objected, ‘Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?’ Judas did not say this because he cared for the poor but because he was a thief. He looked after the money given to the poor and had been secretly helping himself to some of it. – Slide 8

Slide 9

‘Leave her alone,’ Jesus replied, ‘She has poured perfume on me in preparation for my burial. She has done a beautiful thing. ‘You will always have the poor among you,’ Jesus continued, ‘but you will not always have me.’ – Slide 9

Slide 10

‘Listen to this. Wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.’ – Slide 10

Slide 11

Judas left the house and headed off to find the Chief Priests. He had decided to betray Jesus. ‘How much will you pay me to get Jesus into your hands?’ he asked. – Slide 11

Slide 12

They gave him thirty silver coins. – Slide 12

Slide 13

From that time on, Judas watched for an opportunity to betray Jesus to them. – Slide 13
