1
After being on the other side of the Sea of Galilee in the region of Gerasenes, Jesus and His disciples sailed back to Capernaum. There was a large crowd waiting for Jesus. – Slide 1
2
Among those who had rushed to the shore was a man who urgently wanted to see Jesus. – Slide 2
3
His name was Jairus, a leader of the synagogue in Capernaum. Jairus fell at his feet of Jesus and pleaded, ‘My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.’ – Slide 3
4
Jesus agreed to go to the house of Jairus. – Slide 4
5
A large crowd followed them, hemming Jesus in from all sides as they pushed their way through the narrow streets. – Slide 5
6
A woman was there who had been suffering for 12 years from a disease that caused her to bleed. She had spent all her money on doctors to treat her condition, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. – Slide 6
7
Her condition made her ‘unclean’ according to Jewish laws and by touching anyone she would make them unclean too. When she saw Jesus she pushed her way through the crowd until she was right behind Him. – Slide 7
8
Then, she reached out for the hem of his garment (a symbol of a person’s power and authority). She thought, ‘If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.’ Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was free of her suffering. – Slide 8
9
Although Jesus was being jostled in all directions by the crowd He knew that power had gone out from Him. He turned round and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ – Slide 9
10
When they all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.’But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.’ – Slide 10
11
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at His feet. In front of everyone, she told why she had touched Him and how she had been instantly healed. – Slide 11
12
He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’ – Slide 12
13
While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher anymore?’ – Slide 13
14
Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just believe, and she will be healed.’ He walked with Jairus to his house forbidding everyone but Peter, James and John to follow them. – Slide 14
15
Outside the house of Jairus, Jesus saw mourners crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.’ But they laughed at Him. – Slide 15
16
After He put them all out, Jesus took the child’s parents, along with Peter, James and John, and went in where the child was lying. – Slide 16
17
Jesus took her by the hand. – Slide 17
18
Jesus then spoke to her, ‘Talitha koum!’ (which means ‘Little girl, I say to you, get up!’). – Slide 18
19
Immediately the 12-year-old-girl stood up and began to walk around. – Slide 19
20
Her parents and Peter, James and John were completely astonished. Jesus gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. – Slide 20
