Abram and Lot decide to part

Lot chooses to live in the wicked city of Sodom while Abram moves to Hebron.
Contributed by Andrea Rau
Abram had lots of sheep and cattle and so did his nephew Lot. But there was not enough good pasture for all the animals to graze. One day there was a big argument between the herdsmen who looked after Abram’s animals and the herdsmen looking after the animals belonging to Lot. – Slide 1
So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or our herders. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s go our own ways. If you go one way I will go the other. You can choose first which way you want to go.’ – Slide 2
Lot looked in one direction but all he could see was poor land with little grass. – Slide 3
In the other direction he could see a river and green pasturelands. There were also some cities in this place that were known for their wickedness. – Slide 4
Abram let Lot choose first. Lot selfishly chose to go where the land was green and well watered. It looked the best place to live and he didn’t mind about the wicked people that might be living there. Abraham was left with the land that was not so good for grazing animals. – Slide 5
So Lot and his family went down to live in the city of Sodom. He did not care that the people living there were very disobedient and did not love God. – Slide 6
Once Lot had gone, the Lord spoke to Abram. ‘Look all around you, the Lord said, ‘I will give this land to you and your offspring. Go and walk all around the land for it is yours.’ Abram settled in Hebron where he built an altar to worship God. – Slide 7
