Jesus, Mary and busy Martha

Martha learns to make time for Jesus.
This story from the Bible is about two sisters, Mary and Martha who lived with their brother Lazarus in Bethany, a village near Jerusalem. Jesus would often visit their house when He was visiting Jerusalem. – Slide 1
As Jesus was travelling in Bethany He was welcomed into the home of Mary and Martha. – Slide 2
Once inside Jesus sat down and started teaching about the things of God. – Slide 3
Mary immediately sat at the feet of Jesus so she could learn more and more about Him and the ways God wanted her to live. She loved to learn from Jesus! – Slide 4
Martha stated thinking about all the preparations she would need to make to feed all their guests. It would be such a lot of work. She wanted to serve Jesus and went straight to the kitchen to prepare lots and lots of food. – Slide 5
Mary sat peacefully at Jesus’ feet listening to His teaching. She was not aware how stressed and flustered her sister Martha felt at having to cook so many meals – all on her own. – Slide 6
Then, Martha got very angry that she was the one doing all the work! <br/>She said to Jesus, ‘Do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Tell her to help me!’ – Slide 7
‘Martha, Martha,’ Jesus answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things. – Slide 8
‘But few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ – Slide 9
Helping others who are under stress and pressure is important. But however busy we are, it is important to find time to be with Jesus and listen to what He has to say to us. – Slide 10
