God rescues Paul and Silas from prison in Philippi.

Paul travelled to the city of Philippi and went down to the river where some women were gathered for prayer. He shared the good news of Jesus Christ with Lydia and she believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. – Slide 1

While Paul was in Philippi he was arrested for preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. He was beaten with rods and chained in an inner prison cell with a guard to watch over him. – Slide 2

But Paul knew the joy that comes from being a slave of Jesus Christ. Even in prison Paul sang praises to Him! – Slide 3

Suddenly there was an earthquake in the prison and Paul was free! The guard was about to kill himself from fear but Paul quickly stopped him. <br/>The guard asked Paul, ‘What must I do to be saved?’ <br/>Paul answered with the greatest news the world has ever known, he said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.’ – Slide 4

The guard and all of his family believed in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and were baptised. – Slide 5

Paul soon moved on from Philippi but in his absence, Lydia, the guard and others formed a church in Philippi. Paul later wrote a letter to his friends in Philippi sharing with them the joy of The Lord! – Slide 6

Those in the new church at Philippi read Paul’s letter to them. His letter is found in the Bible – the book of Philippians – so you can read how Paul encouraged these Christians to live for Jesus. – Slide 7
