God makes the sun stand still.

The kings of the neighbouring cities heard how God helped the people of Israel to conquer Jericho and they were terribly afraid. – Slide 1
2
Nearby there was the city of Gibeon with many brave fighting men but even they were afraid. So they made a peace treaty with Joshua. – Slide 2
3
This frightened the kings of the neighbouring cities even more. So the King of Jerusalem, whose name was Adoni-Zedek, sent a message to four other kings nearby. – Slide 3
4
He wrote, ‘The people of Israel have conquered Jericho. They are very strong and not only that, the Gibeonites with many brave fighters have joined forces with the people of Israel. None of us stand a chance against them, but if we work together we could defeat them. So, here's my plan, let’s join our forces and fight against the city of Gibeon. – Slide 4
5
The four other kings were more than happy with the proposal of Adoni-Zedek the king of Jerusalem. A powerful army was assembled and encamped around the city of Gibeon. – Slide 5
6
The Gibeonites sent an urgent message of help to Joshua. These mighty kings had united against Israel and Gibeon but Joshua had the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords fighting for them. – Slide 6
7
So trusting in their God, the people of Israel went to battle again. After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. – Slide 7
8
Soon the five kings realised they had no chance of winning. They started to flee from the Israelites, but as they fled the Lord hurled great hailstones from the sky and killed a great number of their soldiers. – Slide 8
9
But to win the battle Joshua needed more time before night fell and the enemy army could escape in the dark. – Slide 9
10
So Joshua prayed to the Lord with great confidence, ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon and moon stand still over Valley of Aijalon.’ – Slide 10
11
God answered Joshua's request, so that the sun and the moon stood still for a while until the people of Israel had defeated all their enemies. – Slide 11
12
It was a unique day in history. The people of Israel saw once again that they were not fighting alone. God was with them.’ – Slide 12
13
So, Joshua and the people of Israel had another victory they certainly could not forget. In all the challenges they faced, God was right there with them. – Slide 13
14
Let’s not forget to ask for God's help in everything we do. The God who fought for the people of Israel is the same God who is on your side each day. – Slide 14
