Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath.

Jesus was invited to a meal at the home of one of the chief Pharisees. – Slide 1

A man walked in with swollen arms and legs. – Slide 2

Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees if it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath Day? – Slide 3

They remained silent instead of answering. – Slide 4

Jesus then healed the man and sent him on his way. – Slide 5

Jesus then told the guests at the meal a parable. He explained that if one of them was invited to a wedding feast, that it would be best to not sit in the highest place of honour. – Slide 6

Why? Because, someone who deserved more honour might arrive later. Then the host would need to move them out of the seat of honour to a lower position. – Slide 7

They would feel such shame and embarrassment to be moved out of the top seat to a less important place at the table. – Slide 8

Jesus explained that it would be better to take the lowest seat first, and then later it was likely that they would be asked to move to a higher position.  <br/>‘Whoever exalts himself will be made low, but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.’ – Slide 9
