Martha and Mary

Martha is busy but Mary finds time for Jesus.
Contributed by Didier Martin
As Jesus and His disciples were travelling, he came to a village of Bethany. – Slide 1
It was where two sisters Mary and Martha lived, along with their brother Lazarus. – Slide 2
Martha invited Jesus into their home. – Slide 3
Then she went off to prepare a meal for them all. – Slide 4
But her sister Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet listening carefully to what He had to say and asking questions. – Slide 5
Mary found all the work getting the meal ready hard to cope with. There was so much to do and so little time. She needed help. She felt more and more flustered and under pressure. Why wasn’t her sister Mary helping her? – Slide 6
She left her cooking and went over to Jesus. ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’ – Slide 7
‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ – Slide 8
