Nicodemus visits Jesus

Jesus tells Nicodemus he must be 'born again'.

Nicodemus was an important Jewish leader. He had heard Jesus speak and seen the miracles He had performed. He wanted to know more about Jesus so one night he went to visit Him. – Slide 1

Nicodemus told Jesus, ‘We know that you are a teacher sent from God. No one can do the miracles you do, unless God is with him.’ – Slide 2

Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth. Unless you are born again, you cannot be in God’s kingdom.’ <br/>When Nicodemus heard he needed to be born again to be in God’s Kingdom he was puzzled. – Slide 3

He asked, ‘But if a man is already old, how can he be born again? He cannot become a newborn baby again. So how can he be born a second time?’ – Slide 4

Jesus explained, ‘A person’s body is born from his human parents. But to be part of God’s family you need the help of the Holy Spirit to give you new life. <br/>‘For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son. God gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life.’ – Slide 5

Nicodemus was a teacher but wondered how all this could be possible.  <br/>How was God’s Son going to make it possible for us to be born again into God’s family? – Slide 6

Nicodemus later found out that Jesus was going to die on a cross. – Slide 7

Jesus was dying to take the punishment for all the wrong things we have done. Through His death we could be made friends with God. – Slide 8

When Nicodemus heard that Jesus had died he bought some expensive spices. He then helped to bury Jesus in a nearby tomb belonging to a friend of his – Joseph of Arimathea.  <br/>Three days later he learnt that Jesus was alive! – Slide 9

Nicodemus now understood what Jesus meant when He said, ‘For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son. God gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life. <br/>Jesus has the power to forgive our sin and bring us into God’s family. – Slide 10
