They went to Derbe and then to on to Lystra. – Slide 2
3
Here they met a disciple named Timothy. – Slide 3
4
Timothy’s mother and grandmother were Jewish but his father was Greek. – Slide 4
5
Timothy had followed closely all that had happened to Paul in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra on Paul’s first missionary trip. – Slide 5
6
The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of Timothy. So Paul asked Timothy to join him and Silas as they travelled on. – Slide 6
7
They travelled from town to town and delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers. – Slide 7
8
Paul and his companions travelled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. – Slide 8
9
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ – Slide 9
10
After Paul had seen the vision, they got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called them to preach the gospel in Europe for the first time. – Slide 10
11
From Troas they sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day went on to Neapolis. – Slide 11
12
From there they travelled to Philippi, a Roman colony, and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And they stayed there several days. – Slide 12
13
On the Sabbath they went outside the city gate to the river, where they expected to find a place of prayer. They sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. – Slide 13
14
One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. – Slide 14
15
When she and the members of her household were baptised, she invited us to her home. ‘If you consider me a believer in the Lord,’ she said, ‘come and stay at my house.’ They gladly accepted her hospitality. – Slide 15
