Daniel at the King's table

Daniel and his friends choose to obey God.
1
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against the city of Jerusalem and defeated King Jehoiakim of Judah. He took many captives back to Babylon. – Slide 1
2
The king commanded Ashpenaz, who was in charge of his court officials, to choose some of the Israelites who were of royal birth and noble. – Slide 2
3
The king assigned them a daily ration from his royal delicacies and his own wine. They were to be trained for three years before entering the king’s service. – Slide 3
4
Among those chosen were Daniel, and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. – Slide 4
5
Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies or the royal wine. – Slide 5
6
He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself. – Slide 6
7
The overseer was sympathetic to Daniel, but said, ‘I’m sorry to say I fear my master King Nebuchadnezzar. He is the one who has decided your food and drink.’ – Slide 7
8
‘What would happen if he saw that you looked weak and sickly in comparison to the other young men your age?’ – Slide 8
9
‘Why it would put my own life at risk!’ – Slide 9
10
Then Daniel spoke to the warden whom the overseer had appointed over Daniel and his friends. – Slide 10
11
‘Please, sir, would you test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and only water to drink?’ – Slide 11
12
‘And then you may compare our own appearances with that of the young men who eat the royal delicacies. Then you may deal with us based on all that you have observed.’ – Slide 12
13
So, the warden heard their proposal and agreed to it and tested them for a total of ten days. – Slide 13
14
By the end of the tenth day, it turned out that Daniel and his friends looked even better compared to the young men who ate from the king's food. So the warden removed the delicacies and the wine from their diet and gave them a diet of vegetables instead. – Slide 14
15
God gave Daniel and his friends knowledge and skill in all kinds of literature and wisdom. – Slide 15
16
Daniel was also given a special ability to understand and interpret visions and dreams. – Slide 16
17
When the time appointed by King Nebuchadnezzar arrived, the overseer brought Daniel and his friends into his presence. – Slide 17
18
When the king spoke with them, he did not find among the entire group anyone like them. – Slide 18
19
So they entered the king’s service, and the king found that they were ten times more powerful and intelligent than all the magicians and knowledgeable people in the whole kingdom. – Slide 19
