David trusts in God to defeat a giant.
1
The Philistines had gathered their troops for battle against the army of Saul in the Valley of Elah. – Slide 1
2
A champion came out from the camp of the Philistines. His name was Goliath. He was very, very tall and very, very strong. He had a big metal sword and spear, a large shield and the very best armour. – Slide 2
3
Goliath shouted to the army of King Saul, ‘You people! Choose for yourselves a man, that he may come down here and fight me if you dare!’ – Slide 3
4
‘If your man strikes me down, we will become the servants of you Israelites.’ – Slide 4
5
‘But if I defeat him, you will become our servants and serve the Philistines. – Slide 5
6
Come! Now, let us fight! – Slide 6
7
For forty days, every morning and evening, Goliath stood in the valley and made his challenge. – Slide 7
8
When Saul and his soldiers heard Goliath’s words, they were upset and very afraid. – Slide 8
9
Then David arrived at the camp from Bethlehem to find out how the battle was going. – Slide 9
10
David was at the battlefront when the Goliath came up from the battle lines to make his daily challenge. – Slide 10
11
David asked, ‘What will be done for the man who strikes down Goliath and frees our land from this humiliation? Who is this man who defies the armies of the living God?’ – Slide 11
12
Some overheard the words David had spoken, and reported them immediately to King Saul. – Slide 12
13
Then the king called for David. – Slide 13
14
David told Saul, ‘My king, do not let anyone be discouraged. Your servant will go and fight Goliath. – Slide 14
15
But Saul replied to David, ‘You can’t. You won’t be able to go against this champion and fight him! You’re only just a boy! But this Philistine, Goliath, he has been a warrior for many years, ever since he was young! That’s impossible!’ – Slide 15
16
David was not afraid. ‘As a shepherd, your servant has struck down both the lion and the bear, when they attacked my father Jesse’s sheep. I believe that the Lord who delivered me from the lion and the bear, he will also deliver me from the hand of that giant Goliath!’ – Slide 16
17
Saul changed his mind. ‘Go ahead young David, the Lord will be with you.’ – Slide 17
18
David went to a nearby stream … – Slide 18
19
And picked five smooth stones. He put them in his shepherd’s bag. – Slide 19
20
He then approached Goliath. – Slide 20
21
Goliath mocked him. ‘Little boy, am I a dog, that you are coming after me with sticks? – Slide 21
22
David replied, ‘You come against me with swords and spear. But I am coming against you in the name of the Lord of hosts, whom you Philistines have defied!’ – Slide 22
23
David took a stone out of his bag and put it in his sling. <br/>He shouted, ‘This very day the Lord will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you down. – Slide 23
24
Then all the land will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord our God will save His people! For the battle belongs to the Lord! – Slide 24
25
David swung the stone in his sling, aimed at Goliath and let go. – Slide 25
26
The stone struck Goliath on the forehead and the giant fell to his knees … – Slide 26
27
And then collapsed on the ground. – Slide 27
28
When the Philistines saw their champion Goliath was dead, they all ran away. The soldiers of King Saul chased after them. – Slide 28
29
David’s faith in the Lord God enabled him to be victorious. – Slide 29
