1
Abram, with his wife, and nephew Lot, were camped in the land of Canaan between Bethel and Ai where they had built an altar to worship God.
Both Abram and Lot were very wealthy, with sheep and cattle and many servants. But the land could not support both Abram and Lot with all their flocks and herds. There were too many animals for the available pasture. – Slide 1

So fights broke out between the herdsmen of Abram and Lot over the use of the pastures. Abram talked it over with Lot. ‘This fighting between our men has got to stop. – Slide 2

‘Choose the land you want and we will separate. If you go to the east, I’ll stay here in the west. Or, if you want the west, then I’ll go over there to the east.’
Lot looked at the lush fertile plains of the Jordan River and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. To him they appeared like the garden of Eden.
‘I’ll choose to live over there in the east,’ Lot told Abram. – Slide 3

So Abram and Lot parted company. Lot headed off to live in Sodom and feed his animals on the fertile plains around the city. He had not taken into account in making this decision that the people of Sodom were very wicked. – Slide 4

After Lot was gone, the Lord said to Abram, ‘Look as far as you can see in every direction, for I am going to give all this land to you and your descendants. I am going to give you so many descendants that, like dust, they can’t be counted!’
Then Abram moved his tent to the oaks of Mamre, near Hebron, and built an altar to God there. – Slide 5
