When the day of the Passover celebration arrived, Jesus sent Peter and John to find a place to prepare their Passover meal. ‘As soon as you enter Jerusalem, you will see a man carrying a pitcher of water, He told them. ‘Follow him into the house he enters. The master of the house will show you to an upper room. Prepare the meal for us there.’ – Slide 1

Peter and John entered Jerusalem and saw a man carrying a pitcher of water. (This was unusual in that usually only woman carried water for domestic use). They followed the man and he led them to a house – Slide 2

Peter and John told the owner of the house, ‘Our Teacher would like you to show us the guest room where He can eat the Passover meal with his disciples.’ The owner showed them into a large upper room. – Slide 3

Peter and John set about preparing the Passover meal. – Slide 4

When Jesus and the disciples arrived, there was not a servant to wash their feet. So Jesus poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with a towel – Slide 5

Peter said to Him, ‘Master, you shouldn’t be washing our feet like this!’Jesus replied, ‘You don’t understand now why I am doing it, some day you will.’‘No,’ Peter protested, ‘You shall never wash my feet!’ – Slide 6

‘But if I don’t, you can have no part with me,’ Jesus replied.Peter exclaimed, ‘Then wash my hands and head as well—not just my feet!’ – Slide 7

At the time to celebrate the Passover they all sat down. Jesus said, ‘’I have looked forward to eating this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.’ – Slide 8

While they were eating, Jesus announced, ‘One of you will betray me.’ – Slide 9

They were very sad and began to say to Him one after the other, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?’ Jesus replied, ‘The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. Woe to that man. It would be better for him if he had not been born. – Slide 10

Judas, who was near Jesus, asked, ‘Surely you don’t mean me?’ Jesus answered, ‘You have said so.’ – Slide 11

Jesus then told Judas, ‘What you are about to do, do quickly. Judas got up and left the room. The others thought Jesus had told Judas to give something to the poor. – Slide 12

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, ‘This is my body given for you – Slide 13

Then He took a cup of wine and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I will not drink wine again until I drink it with you in my Father’s kingdom.’ – Slide 14

Jesus told His disciples ‘A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. – Slide 15

Jesus explained He was going to prepare a place for them in heaven. – Slide 16

Then Jesus promised them that God was going to send the Holy Spirit to help and comfort them. Jesus also prayed for His disciples. – Slide 17

Peter refused to be parted from Jesus. ‘Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death,’ he declared. Jesus answered, ‘Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.’ They left the building and headed to a place called the Garden of Gethsemane. – Slide 18
