John the Baptist learns about the miracles of Jesus

Messengers tell John what Jesus is doing.

John the Baptist was chosen by God to announce that the Saviour of the world was coming and people should get ready for him. <br/>John had preached that people should turn from their wicked ways and obey God. His message upset the wicked ruler of the region, Herod Antipas. who put John in prison. – Slide 1

Earlier when John has seen Jesus walk by the River Jordan he had exclaimed, ‘Look, there is the Lamb of God, the Messiah, the Saviour of the world.’ He went on to baptise Jesus and hear a voice from heaven announce, ‘This is my much loved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ <br/>Now that John was in prison he was hearing reports of what Jesus was doing and wanted to find out more. – Slide 2

So John sent two of his followers to find Jesus and ask, ‘Are you the one, the messiah, the Saviour, who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’ – Slide 3

When they found Jesus and asked Him this question, He replied, ‘Go back and report to John what you hear and see … – Slide 4

‘The blind can now see … – Slide 5

‘The lame can walk … – Slide 6

‘Those who have leprosy are now healed … – Slide 7

‘The dead are raised … – Slide 9

‘And good news is preached to the poor. How happy are those who have no doubts about me!’ – Slide 10

While John's disciples were leaving, Jesus spoke about him to the crowds: ‘When you went out to John in the desert, what did you expect to see? A blade of grass bending in the wind? – Slide 12

‘What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in fancy clothes? People who dress like that live in palaces! Tell me, what did you go out to see? – Slide 13

‘A prophet? Yes indeed, but you saw much more than a prophet. For John is the one of whom the scripture says: “God said, I will send my messenger ahead of you to open the way for you.” – Slide 14

‘I assure you that John the Baptist is greater than anyone who has ever lived. But the one who is least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than John.’ – Slide 15
