Joshua crosses the Jordan

God creates a dry path through the River Jordan.

Joshua and all the Israelites needed to cross the River Jordan to attack the city of Jericho. But it was flowing fast and very deep. How could they all get across? The priests carried the Ark of the Covenant in front of all the people as they marched towards the river. – Slide 1

Everyone had to stay quite a long way behind the Ark of the covenant as it was so Holy. – Slide 2

Joshua spoke to all the people. ‘Today you will see God do a great miracle. When the priests enter into the river with the Ark of the Covenant the water will stop flowing and become like a dam so you can cross over.’ – Slide 3

The priests carrying the Ark started walking into the river. As soon as their feet touched the water the river stopped flowing and built up like a large dam wall. The river bed where the priests were standing became dry. – Slide 4

The priests walked into the middle of the river and stood still. They stayed there while everyone else crossed over to the other side of the Jordan on dry ground. – Slide 5

The soldiers went over first. – Slide 6

Then everyone else crossed over to themother side. – Slide 7

Joshua chose 12 men to carry a stone each from where the priests stood. The stones would be taken to their new campsite and made into a monument. They were to be a reminder of all that God had done for them. – Slide 8

Then the priests walked to the other side and immediately the river started flowing as normal. Now everyone would know about the power of God including their enemies. – Slide 9
