After speaking in the synagogue In Capernaum on the Sabbath day, Jesus went to the home of Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. People In Capernaum were still talking about Jesus for he had spoken with such power and authority. – Slide 1

James and John, who worked as fisherman with Simon Peter and Andrew, were with them. – Slide 2

Living in the house was Simon Peter’s mother-in-law who was ill in bed with a fever. – Slide 3

Jesus was told about her sickness and He immediately went to see her. – Slide 4

He bent over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. – Slide 5

Immediately she stood up completely healed. She then went to serve food for all the guests. – Slide 6

At sunset, when the Sabbath day ended, people in Capernaum and all around rushed to the house where Jesus was staying. – Slide 7

They brought with them people who had all kinds of sicknesses and health problems. – Slide 8

Laying His hands on each one, Jesus healed them. This fulfilled what the prophet Isaiah had prophesied 700 years earlier: ‘He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases’ (Isaiah 53:4). – Slide 9

Jesus cast impure spirits out of some. The demons shouted, ‘You are the Son of God!’ Jesus ordered them to be quiet as they knew He was the Saviour, the Messiah, God had promised to send. – Slide 10

At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place but people searched for Him and found Him. – Slide 11

They begged Him not to leave them. ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to other towns also,’ Jesus explained. ‘That is why God sent me.’ – Slide 12
