v3. Jacob loved Rachel more than the other mothers of his sons. And he loved Rachel’s oldest son, Joseph, more than his other sons. He honours him with the gift of a very expensive ornate robe. – Slide 5

Jacob was a rich man with large herds of sheep and cattle. The brothers feared their father would make Joseph his heir and he would rule over them. – Slide 7

v5. One night as Joseph is asleep he has a very strange dream. – Slide 8

He dreams that he and his brothers are binding sheaves of grain. Suddenly his sheaf stands bolt upright and his brothers’ sheaves gather round and bow down before his. – Slide 9

The next day Joseph tells the dream to his brothers. – Slide 10

Joseph explains how their sheaves bowed down to his. They are enraged. ‘Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?’ They hate him even more. – Slide 11

He tells his eleven brothers how the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed down to him in the dream. – Slide 14

The brothers interpret the eleven stars as a picture of them bowing down to Joseph and their hatred deepens. – Slide 15

Jabob rebukes him. ‘What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?’ – Slide 17
